Frederick Sound is located just north of Petersburg, Alaska, leading into the mouth of the Stikine River. The Stikine is among the longer rivers in Alaska; the salmon that spawn there must store up large amounts of fat in order to make the journey to the spawning grounds. As a result, these fish tend to have a high fat content relative to salmon from shorter rivers. Frederick Sound is also home to the Le Conte glacier; the southernmost tidewater glacier in Alaska.
